The Bowen Therapy Technique is a soft tissue therapy. It consists of a series of very gentle but precise rolling type moves mainly over muscles but can also be over tendons, fascia, ligaments, joints and nerves.
These moves activate a response within the body that stimulates the body’s own natural self-healing ability, enabling incredible results. After a sequence of moves the practitioner may pause and step away from the body or even leave the room to allow the body to process the moves and respond effectively.
These pauses and the gentleness of the treatment are what make Bowen unique. These pauses are frequent but essential to allow the body time to relax, reset, re-align, and heal itself.
A Bowen treatment is not limited to the presenting physical problem but extends to the emotional, cognitive and spiritual aspects of the individual.
Substantial relief is frequently attained after the session, with most people requiring only three or four treatments, usually spaced one week apart, to resolve their problem. For long standing, severe and chronic problems or where the condition is perpetuated through work or sport, more treatments may be necessary requiring fortnightly or monthly visits keeping their body in check.
Bowen is suitable to be used on all ages from new born babies to the very elderly, from the fit and active to the critically ill.
Bowen therapy is all about activating the body’s own response to heal itself. There are really no limits to what Bowen can be used for.
It would be wonderful to think that we don’t need medication or surgery for certain illnesses and injury but this is not always possible. I absolutely recommend that appropriate medical advice is always followed but my aim with the use of Bowen Therapy is to reduce this need where possible.
